Across the UK market, you’ll typically see: 

• Basic round pens from around £1,000–£2,500 

• Mid-range round pens around £2,500–£4,000 

• Premium round pens from £3,500 to £6,000+ 

 

The variation comes down to size, materials, strength, finishing details, and the level of customer service behind the product. 

We could hide what’s included in our prices like most companies do. Make you fill out forms, sit through sales calls, wait for quotes that never quite match what you saw online. 

But we've been horse people for over 30 years. We know you're trying to make a sensible decision for you and your horse, or your business and you can't do that without information. 

So, we give you the information. 

If our pens fit your needs and budget, brilliant. If they don't, that's fine too - at least you know where you stand. 

 

 

The larger the diameter, the more panels are required so a 30ft pen will cost less than a 50ft pen. This is because there’s less metal (11 panels vs 19), fewer man hours to fabricate and less galvanizing weight. Choosing the right size for your needs makes a real difference to value and it’s worth taking time to think about how you will use the pen, who will use it and where it will go. 

 

Panels can vary in steel quality and thickness, height, welding quality, design and finish. Heavier-duty panels increase price but often offer greater longevity. 

Our lightweight Portable panels use 25mm steel box section. Each 8ft panel weighs roughly 19kg - two people can easily lift it, or one if you’re used to hauling bales of hay about! 

Our heavyweight Classic panels include 40mm steel box section with thicker walls. Each panel weighs 35kg. That's 55% more steel, which means 55% more material cost. 

Over a 60ft pen (24 panels), that's the difference of around 385kg of steel. At current steel prices, that's a lot extra in materials alone before we factor in the additional labour costs too. 

 

Gate style and size, panel connections, aesthetics and overall design influence pricing. Are kickboards included? Is there a bespoke design service if you want something a little different at no extra cost? Smooth, reliable operation and good customer service matters more than it first appears. 

 

When comparing round pen prices in the UK, consider these points: 

• Is guidance and advice included when choosing size and design? 

• Can you see the design of your exact pen before you order it? 

• Can you speak to someone knowledgeable about horses and their behaviours before purchasing? 

• Is there support before purchase, during the process and after delivery? 

• Is delivery at a mutually convenient time & VAT included in the price (published prices may exclude VAT to appear cheaper)? 

Support and service are part of the overall value - even if they don’t show up clearly in a headline number. 

 

Some cheaper pens are mass produced where quality may be lower, fabricators may not be experienced. Design for your purpose may not have been taken into account. 

These fabricated pens may have quality issues such as lower gauge steel, design issues such as poor fitting or difficult to align connectors, low than agricultural grade galvanizing, powder coating without galvanising first, leading to easy rusting, and, customer service may not be a priority. The safety aspect is definitely one to consider thoughtfully, as well as the possibility of having to replace panels or the whole pen sooner than anticipated, what would happen if a horse kicked the panel? What would be the downtime? And vets bills? How safe is it to lead your horse through the gate? Sales people may not know the equestrian industry or horses and not realise the safety issues that need considering! 

At the mid to higher end of the market, you should expect high quality steel, fit for purpose, easy to fit and ground adjustable panels, a suitable grade of durable coating whether it be galvanizing or powder coating, a wider choice of quality products including bespoke options at no extra cost, a design option, highly trained UK fabricators working to registered standards, e.g. ISO 5817:2023 and BS EN ISO 1461, and excellent customer service, including post sale support to ensure customer satisfaction with the quality products. 

Neither choice is right or wrong, it all comes down to your specific needs.

• Avoid unnecessary upgrades 

• Focus on structural quality over cosmetic features 

• Consider the support needed before and after purchase 

• Check for included costs such as VAT or delivery 

 

Think long-term. 

• Match the pen to your goals with your horse. 

• What is your situation, e.g., number of horses, experience level, area available. 

• Will you need to move it? (If you are a livery on a yard for example) 

• What is the ground like, do you need variability? 

• Prioritize safety and peace of mind. 

• Use it regularly and in line with your training programme for your horse. 

 

Most UK horse owners investing in a round pen will spend between £2,000 and £9,000 depending on size and specification, so how do you decide which one is right for you? 

It’s about balance. 

 

Working to specific government guidelines for quality, our prices range through the industry levels providing round pens and lunge pens that cover a wide variety of uses and suit differing equestrian needs. 

Typically, £1995 for a 30ft Portable pen and £3000 to £7500+ for the powder coated Classic pen, and thenthe bespoke options. All of our prices include VAT.  

We also provide a second to none customer service agreement before, during and after sale, aligning with our Customer Charter. 

 

Here’s a couple of examples of the lifetime value of a couple of galvanized pens: 

PORTABLE PEN: £1,800 investment 

• Expected lifespan: 10-15 years* 

• Cost per year: £180-£120 

• Daily use: £0.33 per day over 15 years 

• If you use it 3x/week: £0.77 per session over 15 years 

 

CLASSIC PEN: £3,200 investment 

• Expected lifespan: 15-20 years* 

• Cost per year: £213-£160 

• Daily use: £0.44 per day over 20 years 

• If you use it 3x/week: £1.03 per session over 20 years 

 

This gives a realistic cost to the use of the pen vs hiring an arena for example. 

These purchases include everything to get your pen usable, i.e. galvanizing, connecting pins, a choice of gate design and VAT included. In addition, we offer a design service and outstanding customer service throughout the journey. 

 

Here are a few pointers: 

The best round pen might not be the cheapest and it might not automatically be the most expensive. 

 

It’s the one that feels appropriate, solid, and considered, with the level of support that you need available.
